PureRoots banana powder is ripe banana, dried and milled to a pale gold powder. One ingredient. No added sugar, no milk solids, no maltodextrin — which is what most banana powder sold for children is largely made of.
Only fully ripe fruit goes in. Underripe banana dries to something starchy and chalky that tastes of raw plantain; the difference between the two is entirely a sourcing decision, made before anything reaches the dryer.
Machine-dried, not sun-dried
Cut banana browns within minutes — the same reaction that darkens a sliced apple. In the sun that browning runs to completion, and the powder comes out grey-brown with a flat, slightly fermented taste.
Fast drying in a closed chamber outruns the reaction. The slices stay pale, and the powder keeps the mild, honeyed sweetness of the ripe fruit instead of tasting like the bottom of an old fruit bowl.
How to use banana powder
- In milk or a shake. One teaspoon, whisked. Dissolves in cold milk without lumps.
- Into porridge and batter. Sweetens pancakes, oats and dosa batter without sugar.
- In bakes. Replaces mashed banana in bread and muffins — drier crumb, same flavour.
- As a first food. Mixed with warm water or milk. Check the timing with your paediatrician.
Taste and texture
Mildly sweet and honeyed, unmistakably banana, without the sharpness of an overripe one. Very fine and smooth — it is the easiest of the ten to mix into cold liquid, which is why it suits milk and shakes.
Ingredients and storage

Storage: Cool, dry, airtight. Dry spoon every time — more so than usual if you are feeding an infant from the same pouch.

FAQs
Is this raw banana or ripe banana powder?
Ripe. Raw banana powder is a different product — starchy, used as flour. This one is sweet and used as fruit.
Can I give it to a baby?
It is single-ingredient fruit with nothing added, which is why parents use it. When to start solids is a question for your paediatrician, not for us.
Why is it gold and not white?
That is the colour of dried ripe banana. Bright white banana powder has usually been bleached or cut with starch.
